My mom couldn't figure out why I suddenly didn't like pancakes when I was little, when I always loved getting them from McDonald's on roadtrips and such. (Why my parents let us order such a messy meal and eat in the car, I'll never know.) After a little while, it was discovered that she was putting peanut butter on the pancakes whenever she prepared them at home. I'm not a huge fan of peanut butter to this day, and I certainly don't like it on my pancakes! No wonder I stopped taking her up on those morning offers of pancakes before school. She eventually let me start putting my own butter and syrup on the pancakes and everybody was happy (and well fed!)Single Galhttp://www.singlegalscookbook.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203356489467354137.post-18220009521751431972011-11-29T20:01:18.436-08:002011-11-29T20:01:18.436-08:00Thanks Shiela- I have read that about toddlers as ...Thanks Shiela- I have read that about toddlers as well. I think it's definitely true with my son... some days he doesn't eat breakfast, some days it's lunch and sometimes it's dinner. I try not to worry about it, because overall (maybe over 48 hours) he eats more than enough.Julie@teachinggoodeatershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12299361735005931044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203356489467354137.post-40850930356643135052011-11-29T17:45:24.817-08:002011-11-29T17:45:24.817-08:00Great Post --- you are right the first assumption ...Great Post --- you are right the first assumption is almost always "its the food, even when they have eaten it twenty times before". One thing my pediatrian shared with me, was that toddlers take their food in over a 48hr cycle. That in a given 24hr their caloric intake can vary significantly, but it is relatively constant in a healthy child over 48hrs. I never actually looked into this myself, but I assume that he didn't just make it up. :-)Shiela Woodardnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203356489467354137.post-34860340023843923822011-11-29T04:16:58.045-08:002011-11-29T04:16:58.045-08:00Christina- I agree... when he is no longer a 2 yea...Christina- I agree... when he is no longer a 2 year old, he will remember that he likes vegetables and will likely continue to eat them. If you insisted that he eat them at the table and he refused- all he would remember is refusing to eat vegetables- When they are little--- "whatever works" is my motto!!Julie@teachinggoodeatershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12299361735005931044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203356489467354137.post-54487501452605744482011-11-28T19:46:58.178-08:002011-11-28T19:46:58.178-08:00I can completely relate to this. Then, he won't touch them at lunch the next day (and sometimes the story goes the other way around). I am actually okay playing this "game" and finding ways to help him enjoy and be exposed to all kinds of foods. I try not to be offended when he doesn't eat them at the dinner table (i.e. a "traditional" setting). :)Christinahttp://www.elevatewellness.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203356489467354137.post-25518586790203689872011-11-28T16:31:12.469-08:002011-11-28T16:31:12.469-08:00Thanks Kewkew! Thanks Kewkew!Julie@teachinggoodeatershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12299361735005931044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203356489467354137.post-10859529868586975372011-11-28T13:36:07.346-08:002011-11-28T13:36:07.346-08:00Very good points shared here.

Because I've seen all that my older two will eat, I know it's worth it to persist and to not assume that it's the food. When my oldest was 1 1/2 she ate just about anything. Then we went away for a week to a family camp and she ate NOTHING at the meals- we kept trying different foods, but finally realized it was the environment. The cafeteria was way too busy for her to focus on food. We had to start bringing food back to our cabin and once we were there, she would eat.Julie@teachinggoodeatershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12299361735005931044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203356489467354137.post-52218064719022703782011-11-28T05:29:51.331-08:002011-11-28T05:29:51.331-08:00You are so right!
