31 Days Challenge- Day 9: Add Something New to Your Weekly Meal Plan

08 January 2012

Committing to Menu Planning is a great step. As I said last week, it's when you don't have a plan that things fall apart and you end up making choices that are less healthy.

Today's challenge takes things a bit further. Beyond just making a plan, think a bit more about what you're putting on the plan.

Sometimes when I make my plan I realize that I don't have much variety, or I'm not including enough vegetables, or that I haven't had fish on the menu for a while.

Lately what I've noticed about my plans is that there is very little variety. Variety is important to stop us from getting into ruts and to make sure that we continue to try new foods.

Today's challenge is to add something new to your meal plan. It may be a completely new meal or it may just be a new addition to your meal, a new side dish, or even a new "planned" snack. You may even want to enlist your kid's help. Let them look at a few recipes and ask them to pick which one you should add.

My "something new" this week, is broccoli cheese soup. My kids have had it before, but I've never made it, and my daughter has been asking me to for a while.

Monday- Chicken Corn Soup  (Made with leftover Rotisserie Chicken) *This was on last week's plan but we never got to it due to the fact that everyone was sick last week!

Tuesday- "The Best" Bunless Turkey/ Chicken Burgers *Recipe coming later today*  with Sweet Potato Fries and Salad

Wednesday- Poor Man's Lobster, Whole Wheat Cous Cous with Peas, and Salad

Thursday- Broccoli Cheese Soup with Whole Wheat Rhodes Rolls

Friday- Tuna Noodle Casserole made with Whole Wheat Egg Noodles and Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup

Saturday and Sunday- Meals with Extended Family
